The Claresholm and Nanton RCMP detachments had their hands full this week, as they followed up on several complaints of missing batteries that vanished from multiple oil well sites across the Foothills region.

The Nanton RCMP followed up on the case, and on Tuesday November 27 they found 47 of the missing batteries in a location in Calgary.

The following day they were able to locate two suspects with the help of Calgary Police Services and made two arrests.

31 year old Justin Edwin Aaron Dalton and 25 year old Alexandra Mae Smith from the Calgary area, are now facing multiple charges and are set to appear in Calgary Provincial court on December 3.

The recovered battery haul is valued at $23,000.

Dalton is facing the following charges:

  • Failure to comply with recognizance (x4)
  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000 (x2)
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000 (x2)
  • Trafficking in property obtained by crime over $5,000
  •  Trafficking in property obtained by crime under $5,000

Smith is facing the following charges:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000 (x2)
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000 (x2)
  • Trafficking in property obtained by crime over $5,000
  •  Trafficking in property obtained by crime under $5,000
