Speedsters looking for shortcuts through the the Town of Nanton residential areas may find they need to slow down.

A service committee investigation into lowering the speed limit, from 50 km to 40 km, shows the answer isn't to change  the limit, but rather to add more enforcement.

Mayor Rick Everett says the service committee found most people are already driving 40 km in town limits.

"The question is do we want to put lots of money our to change all the signs to go to 40 when most of the people already do 40?" he asked.

He added just putting thousands of dollars out for new signs doesn't solve the problem.

The service committee is going to go before the local RCMP and the Bylaw officer and put more effort into enforcement.

"The service committee was pretty set with let's not change it, lets stick with what we got and put more effort into those areas that we have a problem."

Everett added there are only one or two areas that speed is a problem in.
