The Okotoks Fire Department was on the go again this past week.

The 26 calls they responded to includes 11 medical responses, two vehicle collisions, four fuel spills, three grass fires, alarm activations, and public services.

Dwight Seymour, deputy fire chief, says there's a couple types of incidents they see more frequently as the weather starts to warm up.

"Definitely this time of year as things start to green up and we get a little bit of moisture people tend to look at burning a bit more so we do see grassfires because everything is still very dry out there," he says. "As well at this time of year with some gravel on the roads and people thinking about summer plans etcetera, we're not sure what it is, but we do tend to see that our MVCs go up this time of year as well."

Seymour says the recent moisture in the Foothills hasn't provided enough relief to not worry about fires.

"It's still very dry conditions out there even though we've had a little bit of moisture which is definitely helping but it is still really dry so make sure we're careful with any backyard fire pits and make sure we're meeting the regulations they can find on the Town website."

The department was also busy kicking off Emergency Preparedness Week which runs until May 13.
