It was a busy second quarter for Okotoks Municipal Enforcement.

The number of responses officers attended to have sky rocketed since the start of 2016.

Officer Peter Stapley says the jump is substantial.

"We're up from the year before and we're up quite a bit from the first quarter," he says. "In the second quarter we handled 537 complaints and we also had 231 officer-generated complaints compared to our first quarter which was 281 general complaints and 51 officer complaints, which is quite the increase."

Once again municipal enforcement will be busy handing out speeding tickets within town, especially in school zones and playground zones, where Stapley says over a quarter of the total violations occurred.

"We do focus on school zones and playground zones quite a bit and this year in April, during our speed enforcement month, there were 200 speeding tickets issued and 55 of those occurred in school and playground zones."

He says that trend of officer presence won't change during the rest of the summer and into the fall.

"I wouldn't say it's a surprise to be honest. We spend a lot of time in those zones and we will be once school starts back up in September."
