The Movember Foundation has taken men's health awareness one step further with the development of a website for guys who tend to shy away from seeing a physician.

Mitch Hermansen, Director of Development and Health Promotions for the Movember Foundation, says the men's mental health is a crucial issue that needs more attention.

"The mental health side is actually pretty serious. The leading cause of death for men between the ages of 15 and 44, you might think it's heart disease, or car accidents, it's actually suicide. Of all the suicides in Canada this year, three quarters of them are men," he said.

He adds that men's mental health is not a widely discussed topic, but should be.

"We know that people like to talk about moustaches, so that's the kind of visibility we hope to bring to this and make sure that guys are educated about their mental health. They will know how to take action during tough times. A lot of people don't know that side of Movember, but it's a really important one, that's where heads up guys.org really comes in handy for this type of stuff," he said.

Hermansen says that men generally choose not to see a doctor until absolutely necessary, and they've developed the heads up guys website as a platform for men to access treatments and solutions from their devices.

Heads up dot org offers a wealth of information regarding men's mental health, self check tools and links to resources available for treatment.
