It's the 43rd year in a row for the Okotoks Collector Car Auction and folks are ready to flock to see the interesting classics that are up for grabs this year.

Jeff Hill, President of OCCA, says the car show has been an Okotoks event for nearly 50 years and it's still one of the biggest car auctions nation wide.

"The Okotoks Collector Car Auction, is actually the longest running collector car auction in Canada.  This is our 43rd annual event, it started in 1975 but it's been a family business ever since my wife Astrid and I bought the company from my Uncle."

Hill says there's a lot of buzz this year about some specific vehicles including a '51 Chevy 5 window pick-up that's getting lots of attention. As well as a '56 T-Bird that once belonged to country music star Buck Owens.

The most popular vehicle Hill shares will most likely be what they call a 'Lakester'.

"One of the more unique vehicles is actually a race car for the Bonneyville Salt Flats, which is made out of the fuel tank of an old WWII bomber." Hill adds excitedly "It's called a Tankster, or a Lakester and it's really a very very neat vehicle, and it's designed for high speed runs on the Salt Flats."

Those who are going to have a good time, and maybe not purchase a Lakester quite yet, can still attend and make a difference.

Three will be trips and one beautiful vehicle that Hill says, will be auctioned off to raise money for charity.

"We're going to auction off a couple trips this year, one in particular for the Foothills Hospice.  We also have a charity car being sold, a really nice 88' Chevy Monte Carlo SS that's going to the Mustard Seed this year."

A preview of the Collector Cars can be taken in at the Okotoks Rec Centre, on Friday evening at 6 P.M. while the auction will take place on Saturday morning at 10:00, doors open at 9 A.M.

There is an admission fee of $15 for regular admission, $10 for Seniors, $5 for children, while 12 and under can get in for free.
