Residents got their fill of Chili Saturday as a record setting Chili-Fest hit the streets of Okotoks Saturday Afternoon.

14 different stands were set up displaying their finest chili hoping to earn the approval of tasters and celebrity judges to win the coveted title of "Best Chili"

Community Events Coordinator Mark Doherty says it was a perfect day for Chili-Fest.

"It's a great day for this, actually it's the first day the smoke hasn't been over us," he says. "We got great attendance today, 14 team participating all for a great cause too, raising money for Dr. Morris Gibson, the parent foundation that they're trying to establish new playground equipment and that's really open to the entire community."

Hundreds of people flocked to Elizabeth Street to take in the vendors and the numerous flavours of chili.

Doherty says when the street is closed off to have Chili-Fest it just makes summer events that much better.

"We're finding in any of our events when we close the roads down, it just creates that atmosphere of a festival and all of our events seem to be so well attended and this is just another example of that."

Doherty says the summer events this year have some of the best he's seen in his time as Community Events Coordinator.

"All in all it's been a great summer for our events," he says. "I hear very positive comments from Okotokians to keep it up and that's exactly what we're going to do.

The next outdoor event won't be later in September when the 4th Annual Harvest-Fest returns September 26th.
