A hometown girl is now coming back as a big time film maker.

The Okotoks Film Festival is featuring many international films while also focusing on local talent like that of Chantal Beaulne.

Beaulne graduated from Holy Trinity Academy with an inclination for books and reading as opposed to film.

She says it was something she kind of discovered later in her life.

"I was always really into reading, and to be honest I didn't always have a huge respect for film, then I went to school where I saw film in a new light." Beaulne adds "I became really fascinated by it and I had always really admired animation, and was even the president of the animation club at school."

With an animated short film in the Okotoks Film Festival, Beaulne says she is very excited to share her accomplishments with friends and family in her hometown.

"I'm really excited to see the other film makers coming out of Okotoks, and I'm very excited to meet other kids and answer any questions they might have about going to school for film making or animation."

She shares that she is still learning and enjoying her creations, she is delighted to share them with the world.

"Films are something that you share with people or they can be personal, it's like a whole new language to learn so I feel like a little kid who's getting into the finger paints again, trying new things and often being very clumsy with them, just because there is so much unexplored territory there."

Beaulne's short film 'Mongoose' follows the story of a old woman named Voirrey, who confronts an imaginary friend who has been living in her reclusive home.
