Changes to the intersection at Highway 7 and 16th Street west of Okotoks are going to go ahead.

That according to Division II Councillor with the M.D. of Foothills Delilah Miller, who says despite rumours of the Province saying work at the intersection won't be done, she's been assured it will be, and soon.

"Alberta Transportation is currently working on it. We are correct on that. We just aren't sure what they're planning for sure. But it looks like widening the turning lanes to me. They haven't officially stamped that as "approved." But it looks like widening the turning lanes is on the program."

Miller says she's been told the Province wants to move fairly quickly on making the changes to the intersection.

"Hopefully we'll know more once we get back to Council at the end of the month."

She says on word the Province didn't want to do the work didn't sit well with her so she did some checking.

"I said if that's the case I will be disappointed, but I will be following up on it. And so I did. They've had it engineered. And the engineers have gone back to the Province with a suggestion. And so now it's up to the Province to decide which way they want to proceed on it."

Miller and others have been pushing for changes to the Highway linking Okotoks and Black Diamond after several fatal accidents on that stretch of road in recent years.
