The Millarville Christmas Market kicks off this weekend.

The event is geared towards families and according to organizer Melanie McKee, they have added some new features for all ages to enjoy.

"We have a few new additions this year for family entertainment, we have photos with reindeer, a mobile glass-blowing studio that will be doing demonstrations all day everyday, we have photos with Santa, a live nativity on Friday and Saturday, and free sleigh rides."

McKee says the market tries to keep a local focus with its vendors.

"We generally try to follow the 80/20 rule for our Christmas market," she says. "That's 80% of our vendors have made, baked or grown their product this year in Alberta."

According to McKee, there are a few different types of food at the market as well as items that might help with the Christmas shopping list.

"We have lots of pottery and photographs, artwork, and there is lots of sewing and crafts, and quilted crafts."

The Millarville Christmas Market opens its doors Friday at noon and runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
