If you're job searching in the Foothills, McBride Career Group offers a variety of free services. Program Coordinator Lyne Brown says their services are free to anyone, including career counselling, computer training, and help building resumes.

"We sit with them and we'll brainstorm, throw ideas at them, give them individualized support in helping to put themself on a piece of paper. It's quite enlightening for clients. They realize wow, I have a lot of skills, I've done a lot of things in the past. So it's very good that way, getting past work experience and skills and training on one piece of paper can be a challenge when you do it on your own."

McBride's High River office runs two programs, Career Employment Information Services (CEIS) to help people at any age and the Experience Counts program designed for the older worker.

"We've had up to 72 years of age and as young as 51. The program runs for six weeks. We have all of our career and employment workshops so creating resumes, cover letters, preparing for interviews, career planning, all of that. Then we also include basic computer classes."

Brown says the program also uses a contract facilitator who holds personal development workshops for problem solving, conflict resolution, and confidence building. The computer classes cover Microsoft Office, online resources, and internet safety as well. Brown says the program helps people walk taller and gain confidence to hit the ground running with employers in the area.
