The man convicted of killing and dismembering his father before hiding the remains in Okotoks received his sentence on Thursday.

24-year-old Zaineddin Al Aalak was convicted of second-degree murder in December of 2020 after a jury rejected the defence's claim that he was not criminally responsible due to a state of psychosis at the time of the incident.

The body of his father, 53-year-old Mohamed Al Aalak was discovered on a construction site on the D'Arcy development in Okotoks in July of 2017, after he was killed and dismembered by his son.

Al Aalak was sentenced to serve life in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years.

He was also sentenced to four years in prison for indignity to a body, to be served concurrently.
