A crash south of Longview early this morning has left one man dead.

EMS from Black Diamond and Nanton responded to reports of a motor vehicle collision about 6:20 Tuesday morning involving a semi-hauling cut logs and a pick-up truck just south of Highway 533 on Highway 22.

Stuart Brideaux with AHS says paramedics assessed the male driver of the pick-up truck, believed to be in his 40s, who had been moved out of his truck by bystanders because of concerns of a vehicle fire and they called STARS.

"Given the high mechanism of the collision, and the vehicle fire, ground paramedic crews requested STARS Air Ambulance to attend the scene," Brideaux says. "With the assistance of the STARS crew, paramedics treated the pick-up driver on scene however he succumbed to his injuries at the scene and was not transported to hospital."

The two occupants of the semi, a male driver and female passenger, were taken to High River Hospital in stable and non-life threatening condition with very minor injuries.

RCMP are investigating what may have lead to the collision.
