Lynnwood Ranch hosted their 4th Annual Barbeque Pitmaster Competition this past weekend, featuring over 30 teams from all across Canada, as far out as Quebec.

Gus Leduc, owner of Lynwood Ranch, says the event is an accredited competition by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, and judges are required to have certification.

" Two reps come in from the States, and they oversee and make sure everything is done according to hoil. The judges that are selected apply to judge at the event and have to have their KCBS accredidation." said Leduc.

BBQ on the Bow Society organizes the annual event while Lynnwood Ranch hosts and coordinates the barbeque banquet Saturday night.

Leduc says all competitors prepare the same 4 items, and it's all about the personal touch.

" There's brisket, pulled pork, ribs and chicken. So, that's 4 separate entries, but it's all in how they individually prepare it." he said.

There was a great turnout and the event, as well as the barbeque banquet on Saturday, was a great success according to Leduc.

Prairie Smoke and Spice took first place at the competition, a team from Regina, Saskatchewan who competes in both Canada and the United States.

"They're a veteran type team. They compete quite regularly in the United States and do quite well," said Leduc.

The Saturday night banquet featured a wide spread of barbequed meats, vegetables and potatoes and was finished off with delicious desserts, all prepared by the team at Lynnwood Ranch. Charlie Brown of A.M. 1140 in High River provided entertainment and music for the patrons.
