It looks like we're in a bit of a shakeup from the warmer weather we've been enjoying in the Foothills as of late.

A low pressure system sweeping over the Rockies is set to bring rain and possible thunder storms today and possibly into the weekend.

As it moves East toward Saskatchewan, lower temperatures will be sticking around, with the possibility of more precipitation and possibly even snow on Sunday according to earlier forecasts.

Despite this, Meteorologist with Environment Canada Eric Dykes says snow isn't terribly likely.

"Right now, it's a bit of a pessimistic forecast in my opinion, for straight showers on Saturday night and period of snow on Sunday. Those periods of snow are only there right now for the very very early morning hours on Sunday because with a high of eight degrees on Sunday, it's not going to of course cause snow in the afternoon with that type of high."

The slight dip in temperature is expected to stick around into next week according to Dykes, and we may even see a resurgence of rain.

"It does look like we're going to be a few degrees below normal to start the work week next week. The norm for this time of year are 14 for a high, 1 for low. We can see that on Monday with a high of 11 we're a few degrees below that, so it looks like rather benign weather to start next week, but warming up for mid to late next week, and it's at that point in time we may see another chance of precipitation for Southern Alberta."

He says some areas of the Foothills are likely to be hit a little harder than others in terms of precipitation, with Okotoks possibly experiencing fewer showers than neighboring areas.
