One and four Canadians may be affected with liver disease and unfortunately with there being no treatment it is vital to fund research on the disease.

Anne-Marie Cotton, a local woman, was diagnosed with a certain liver disease and has been living with it for 10 years now.

Cotton says the liver disease she's been living with is called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis.

"I have a liver disease called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, which is a big fancy term for basically the bile ducts in my liver have been inflamed and now they are scarring and closing off, and that causes bile to back up into the liver and cause more scarring throughout the liver which has led to liver cirrhosis."

Every year the Canadian Liver Foundation hosts the Liver Right Gala in order to raise money for medical teams to continue their research in hopes of one day discovering a treatmant.

This year the gala goes December 9th and Cotton says it's a really great night for a great cause.

"There's a whole bunch of wonderful things going on all night. There is a silent auction, an awards ceremony to honor the doctors and nurses that do the research within the Heritage Medical Research team at the Foothills, and there's also going to be live entertainment by the Reuben Kincaids so it's going to be a great night."

Cotton will also be reunited with a friend she's worked closely with in the past at the upcoming gala.

"I was involved in a research study myself with the medical research team and one of the nurses that I worked closely with is going to be honored that evening so I am really excited to see her again."

The Liver Right Gala goes Friday, December 9th at the Sheraton Cavalier in Calgary.

Tickets can be bought for $150 each with a $60 dollar tax recipt or a table of eight can be bought for $1,200.
