The Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling WFG Masters has come and gone from Okotoks, not just leaving an impact on the curling community but also local businesses.

The Lakeview Inn & Suites saw a plethora of business come their way during the event and saw almost 95% occupancy every night.

Western Regional Operations Manager Ken Mealy says they were happy to accommodate.

"With the proximity of our hotel to the venue, we were the host hotel for Sportsnet and so we had the crew as they arrived three or four days before the event and stayed all the way through," he says.

Mealy adds that it wasn't just those working at the Grand Slam but also out of towners as well.

"We were 75 percent full with the Sportsnet crew and the organizing committee. The rest of them we had people come as far as Trail, B.C. Regina, as well as Airdrie and Edmonton."

The hotel hopes future events like the Grand Slam or other big name showcases will call Okotoks home.

"There is something to be said for putting events in a community and so as a part of that community we need to start working together to see how we can draw more events of this nature and this size into the community."

Mealy says it was great to see other local businesses reap the benefits of the WFG Masters throughout the event.
