A group of Okotoks moms are getting together to help support women who'll be spending Christmas at the Rowan House Emergency Shelter.

Mothers of Preschoolers, or MOPS, is looking to assemble Christmas hampers to donate to the shelter to help families who are facing domestic violence this holiday season.

The group is looking to fill the hampers with donations of toiletries, cleaning products, pyjamas, and socks.

Courtney Johnson, coordinator for MOPS, says if people aren't able to help with their hamper campaign they can still contact the Rowan House to see what they need.

"They have a Christmas wish list so you can go online to their website and download that and look at what the full complete list of items are, bring them directly to the Rowan House, and that will be a huge support for women who are going through a rough time this Christmas season."

Johnson adds it feels good knowing the group can reach more deeply into the community to help those in need.

"In the trenches, single parenting right now and not having a place to call home, possibly facing a Christmas alone, that's a harsh reality," she says. "I think it's wonderful the women in our group have decided to pull together our resources and do what we can to make a small difference and maybe bring a small glimmer of hope into the lives of some women in our community."

MOPS will be putting the hampers together at 9:15 on Tuesday morning at the Okotoks Evangelical Free Church.
