With modifications in place, Lineham House Galleries is ready to share local art with the public again.

The gallery closed its doors in March as a precaution due to COVID-19 and has since reopened on May 14 as part of phase one of the Alberta government's relaunch strategy.

Cheryl Taylor, Co-owner of Lineham House Galleries, says she feels comfortable with the decision to reopen.

"I think it's a nice balance... we are not, as are most small businesses in downtown Okotoks, we're not a highly trafficked location. It is very easy to keep distance and keep safety protocols with common sense on both the business owners part and the public as well."

A number of measures are in place at the gallery to help protect guests and staff.

Health measures in place at the gallery include disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer available for use, a six person limit, a no-touch policy, asking guests to maintain a physical distance of two metres, and constant disinfecting for all high-touch surfaces.

Taylor says it's important to show appreciation for the local business community during this difficult time.

"Our small local businesses were hit the hardest in all of this. I don't think we had a lot of questions as to how that all rolled out and questions as to why, we understand that at the same time it's very hard and probably some of our most vulnerable were caught up in that."

She adds she's excited to reunite with other businesses and local artists through sidewalk chalk art along Elma Street.

With hundred of sidewalk panels, locals are invited to join in and show their appreciation through the sidewalk art and help celebrate the community.
