One High River woman will put her riding skills to the test getting ready for the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer this weekend.

Maggie Bowen needs some help making the minimal fundraising requirements to ride in the event.

She says she's close to her goal.

"I'm at $1500 at this point and our minimum is $2500 and I'm hoping to raise $1000 on Thursday," she says.

In order to get the funding she needs, she is willing to do a warm up leg of the ride in front of the Snodgrass Funeral Home on Thursday.

"I will be setting up my road racing bike on a trainer and it approximately takes the average person six hours each day to do this ride so I'm going to be on my bike for six hours, riding and earning the donations that hopefully people will come out and help."

Bowen says she's been participating in the event for seven straight years and the ride is something that is very dear to her heart.

"I learn more about people, I learn more about what the event is. There's been years when you're riding with somebody who is suffering from cancer, in the middle of treatment or who is challenging cancer and they'd always make it back every year because they may not be with us any longer."

The Ride to Conquer Cancer is a two day event where riders will bike through the Foothills and Calgary, including a stop overnight at Foothills Composite High School in Okotoks.
