Four local businesses teamed up in the month of May to raise money for both Heaven Can Wait Animal Foundation and the Fort McMurray SPCA.

It's A Jungle Out Their Pet Services, Diane's Dog Walking Service, Sage's Place Dog Grooming and Dogton Abbey donated $1 from every service sold to the two organizations.

Adoption centre coordinator for Heaven Can Wait Angie Berner says donations like these help with the day-to-day needs of the animals.

"When companies get together and do fundraisers like this it helps us be in a better position to take care of the animals coming in."

The fundraiser started after the Fort McMurray fires caused families to evacuate their homes and thousands of animals to be evacuated also.

Heaven Can Wait reached out to the foundations helping with the animal rescues and offered their support if needed.

"We went onto the list to be overflow for CHS, so as the animals come in if CHS has a problem housing them then they will come to us," Berner says.

There has not been a lot of need from Fort McMurray animals to come down to the Foothills area, but for a short time Berner says they did have two new faces that escaped the fire.

"We have had two of the Fort Mac dogs to date, which we got through a family that had been displaced."

The family found a place to stay and got to pick up their dogs on June 1.

Both the Fort Mac SPCA and Heaven Can Wait Animal Foundation received $114 from the fundraiser.
