A local country music artist has received two nominations for the Calgary YYC Music Awards this year.

Tanya Ryan says she was a little surprised to receive word of the nominations, as the network is still new to her.

"I was pretty surprised. YYC network is kind of a newer network for me, and so I guess I lack familiarity with the peer setting, so it wasn't an expectation that i had to be included right away," she said.

Ryan says she was honoured when she got news of the nominations, but tends to avoid investing too much emotion in the win.

"As lovely as they are to receive, I don't tend to invest a lot of my emotions in them, just because it's not necessarily the greatest way to assess your accomplishment in your work," she said.

Ryan received nominations for awards in the Female Artist and Country Recording of the Year categories.

The Calgary YYC Music Awards will take place in Calgary on September 23rd at Palace Theatre.
