A local artist is giving back to the Yamnuska Wolf Sanctuary through her artwork.

Ashley Gaboury from High River was inspired by a personal experience of learning about dog behaviour to donate proceeds from her artwork to the sanctuary in Cochrane.

Gaboury graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a BFA in Studio Arts in 2003 and has worked as an instructor at The Prairie Art Gallery in Grande Prairie. She's also established herself as an art instructor while continuing to develop her own art.

She says she has a great relationship with Yamnuska.

"I promote it wherever I go and I have work in their gift shop as well, then I donate 40% of the proceeds of any print I sell with a wolf on it back to the sanctuary," she explains. "So wherever it is, if it's at the gift shop or if I'm at the Comic Expo, any other place where I'm exhibiting, I donate 40% back to the sanctuary."

Gaboury adds feedback on the partnership and the work the organization does is positive.

"I've had amazing response, a lot of people love the idea they can go out there and interact with the wolf dogs. They learn about how wolf dogs came to be and about proper care and also just understanding the animals better."

Her art can be found in Okotoks at the Lineham House and Paintworks.
