Old Downtown Okotoks will be transformed into a movie set next week as filming for a dramatic feature film begins.

The film, ICE BLUE is set in the foothills, centers around a 16 year old girl who seeks to uncover secrets hidden deep in her family's isolated farm.

Producer for ICE BLUE, and Okotoks resident Scott Lepp says downtown is an ideal set for the film.

"We needed a small town, the old downtown in Okotoks just has this really amazing character, and feel to it. So when I took our director, Sandi Somers down there she fell in love with a lot of places; including the Mr. Spud Diner , and the Home Pharmacy."

Lepp adds the foothills are an ideal place to create movies.

"Okotoks is just in the perfect spot, because heading East you have the prairies, out West you have the foothills, and the mountains. You really have almost any terrain you could possibly want, to add to that its stunning, its beautiful. That's why people come here to film, right now in addition to us, there are four major productions going on right now, and that's why they're all here."

If you happen to run into a movie set over the next week, Lepp says you're more than welcome to come take a look and interact with the crew.

"I think people should come take a peek, before I got into making movies I would have been all over that. We're not a closed set by any means, and the crew and cast are very approachable. Somebody might stop you if we're shooting, or if cameras are rolling. Otherwise I don't think the area should be avoided, certainly not the businesses because they will remain open, and we definitely do not want to take anything away from that."

ICE BLUE will film in locations around Okotoks Monday, April 3, and Friday, April 7.

The film is expected to be completed in anticipation of the fall festival season.
