Light Up Okotoks is back again this year and Town of Okotoks is adding new events, like opening up the Rotary Performing Arts Centre for an indoor choir.

Community events coordinator Mark Doherty says the event is a great way to support community groups.

"The 18 wheels of Christmas food drive is back, so we encourage people to bring non-perishable food items or cash which is always good for those guys because the purchasing power is better for them; this is a huge time of year for the demand on them," he says.

With everything going on at the event, this year the Town is handing out activity maps.

"This year we included them in our little brochure hand-out that is available at Sobeys and the Rec Centre, you can also go online to get them and we will have them at the event itself," Doherty says.

Elizabeth Street will be closed starting at 5 o'clock on Fri. Nov. 20 as the event starts at 5:30 p.m that day.

Doherty says the Town will put the signs up on Tuesday letting the public know of the closures.

The lighting of the tree for the event will be at 7 p.m. and fireworks will follow at 9 p.m.
