Riverside Park was filled with families on Sunday taking part in the Okotoks Kite Festival.

The event was put on by the Town in correlation with Canada's national Kite Flying Day.

Mark Doherty, Community Events Coordinator, says the festival is a way to get people active outdoors.

"It's really cool to see all ages out there from grandparents to toddlers flying a kite, and it's just to get families out and together and give them an activity to do," Doherty says.

Along with the kite flying there was bouncy castles and face painting for the kids.

Doherty says that Bud Taylor from Airdrie also came in for the event.

"Bud does kite flying demonstrations as well as sales, and he is just a great guy who loves kite flying so much he's made his living off it."

The festival has also been used as a fundraiser with local organizations setting up a barbeque to raise money.

"This year it's the 187 Air Cadets squadron and they will be holding the barbeque and all of the proceeds will go back to them," Doherty says.
