It's nearly Rememberance Day, and the Okotoks Legion's banner project can now be seen lining Veterans Way.

The project gives families the opportunity to sponsor banners with photos or names of loved ones who have fought for Canada's freedom.

Legion President Bob McLeod says he hopes residents take the time to admire the banners over the weekend.

"Please drive up and down, and while you're there look up at the memorial wall that the Town has put up on Veterans Way. Have a glance at the pictures of those folks who didn't come home," he said.

The banner project saw 17 banners being sponsored by residents.

McLeod says the project is a nice supplement to the Town's traditional Remembrance Day ceremonies.

"In a place like Okotoks, where you have thousands of people attending (Remembrance Day events), many want a good, private thing for the families. A lot of them don't feel they are actually given the recognition they'd like to, for the veteran in their family."

McLeod says the poppy campaign, and banner projects have both been successful fundraisers so far.

"Wear a poppy, and when you see a veteran, thank them for their service," he said.

McLeod went on to thank local politicians like RJ Sigurdson and Mayor Bill Robertson, as well as Town employees, for their help in getting the banners hung on Veterans Way.
