Local law enforcement are working on building their relationship with youth through the Positive Ticket Campaign.

The Positive Ticket Campaign is an opportunity for local law enforcement officers to reward youth for good deeds and positive acts in the community.

Okotoks McDonald's locations have joined the initiative and will be accepting the tickets to give youth a treat for their efforts.

Carey Gruber, Youth Social Development Specialist for the Town of Okotoks, says the campaign's also in Calgary and has been proven to have a positive response.

"The research has really supported that it does make a positive impact in the community on youth and juvenile crime behaviours," she explains. "It reduces some of the issues that law enforcement has to deal with and it boosts the morale."

Gruber adds it's all about building a strong relationship with youth.

"It's someone in law enforcement, whether it's one of our municipal enforcement officers or an RCMP officer, who has something in their hand that is a positive way to approach a youth who has made a good decision and that youth can go back, tell their parents, be very proud of what they did, and hopefully that will have an impact on their peers as well when they share what they received at school and say 'hey, I did this, and I made Okotoks a better place' ."

The Positive Ticket Campaign will kick off at the River Valley Clean Up on May 5.
