The Okotoks refugee support committee is working hard on finding a way to help the refugee families when they arrive in Okotoks.

The committee has come up with ideas such as a handbook for both the families and the private sponsors, along with fundraising effort ideas.

Okotoks Mayor Bill Robertson says even with all the brain-storming not much can really be done until the first family arrives.

"It depends on Canadian immigration and flights, as well as waiting for immigration to approve their integration into Okotoks society," Robertson says.

One family is currently waiting in a refugee camp in Turkey.

However even with the wait, it hasn't stopped a group of individuals in Okotoks from extending some love to the families already.

Robertson says a group called "Just So Inspired" is behind the kind act.

"A group of individuals from the LDS church in Okotoks who made around 30 quilts for kids, so that they can get a beautifully handmade quilt."

Robertson says he likes to call it a "labour of love", one that will help make these children feel at home, and keep them warm.

"Each child will get a quilt that will be theirs to keep, when they arrive in Okotoks every child will get a quilt," Robertson says.
