King's Own Calgary Regiment is hoping to see more recruits from the Foothills.

KOCR is a reserve armoured unit and is part of 41 Canadian Brigade Group in the 3rd Canadian Division and train armoured fighting vehicle crews of part-time professional soldiers.

The group is in recruiting mode and will be back in Okotoks on Mar. 10 looking to add some locals to their group.

Captain Michael Kaye, Adjutant/ Operations Officer with KOCR, says there hasn't been a large amount of applicants from the region.

"We've been trying since last summer and the interest was minimal so we thought we'd try again. The armed forces, especially the reserves, really put an emphasis on recruiting this year so we've reached out again to the southern area there and we're hoping to draw some interest. So far there's been minimal but not as much as we'd hoped for."

Once an applicant makes it through paperwork with the brigade they're then passed on to KOCR and are sworn in and can begin their course. They offer a full time course from May- August where new private recruits can earn up to about $10,000 over the summer.

Kaye says there's a few qualities they're looking for in applicants.

"Someone that's motivated, physically fit, a bit adventurous, and is willing to stretch themselves a bit thin in the beginning to spend some extra time doing some training in addition to their personal life, whether they're in school or have a full time job... so definitely someone that's motivated is what we want."

King's Own Calgary Regiment will be set up at the Foothills Centennial Centre on Saturday from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.
