KidSport Okotoks is hoping its upcoming fundraiser will provide a much needed boost as times have become desperate for monetary donations.

The organization has funded 259 youth already this year for a total of almost $93,000 and families who will apply for assistance won't be able to receive funding unless KidSport sees donations come in.

Shari Gustafson, chair of KidSport Okotoks, says she's never seen this happen before.

"We have always done quite well with our funds and we've just exploded as an organization, we've grown so much in such short time but our need has just grown so rapidly and not only that but it's coupled with the recession that we're facing."

The total KidSport has given to families this year already exceeds their totals from 2016 with a few months to go still for 2017.

Gustafson says they give $500 to each family that applies which can be used in a variety of ways.

"Children can use a portion of it to get involved in a winter sport and a portion to get involved in a spring sport or they can use it all at one time," she explains. "The cost of sport is huge now so $500 for a child to be involved in sport isn't a lot, a lot of time it doesn't cover the fee that is needed."

Their fundraiser is set to take place Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Crescent Point Regional Field House.

The night will be an evening of entertainment with a fun money casino, raffles, silent auction items, live music, and food from Big Sky BBQ Pit.

Tickets are $100 each at the Field House and Natural High Fitness with proceeds going directly towards kids registration fees for sports.
