A picnic at the piano was was the perfect way to kick off summer on Wednesday in Okotoks.

Residents brought their lunches, blankets and chairs to the McArthur Stage in Olde Plaza and enjoyed live music from one of Canada's premier jazz pianists Sheldon Zanboer.

Allan Boss, culture and heritage manager for the Town, says Zanboer has an impressive resume.

"Sheldon's one of the preeminent jazz pianists in Western Canada," he says. "He's played internationally, he's played for the Queen and the royal family, he's been at the Juno's, this is a guy who knows his way around a keyboard."

The audience was made of about 120 people.

Boss says there's two more concerts scheduled for the summer.

"The next one is July 20 at noon and that will be Kenna Burima who's also a Calgary musician and recording artist who will be doing a sing-a-long, people can come down and she'll hand out song sheet and they can sing-a-long with Kenna."

On Aug. 24 at noon the public piano will host Natasha Sayer who'll be playing children's music.
