Okotoks will be merry and bright as residents gather downtown Friday night for Light Up Okotoks.

The annual event officially kicks off the holiday season in town and encourages shopping local.

Zach Adams, Community Events Specialist for the Town of Okotoks, says the evening has activities for everyone.

"We've got shops staying open later, a Christmas market, we've got wagon rides, 21 sponsored fire pits that are going to be lighting up the downtown, and then the lighting of our big Christmas tree downtown which the mayor will be kicking off."

The lighting of the Christmas tree takes place at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a performance from the Foothills Philharmonic Choir from 7:30- 8 p.m.
