John Barlow has been re-elected to represent the Foothills in Ottawa.

Barlow earned 52,907 out of the 64,290 ballots counted on election night for 82.3 per cent.

Though excited for his win, Barlow was disappointed with the Liberal Party winning a minority government.

"It's certainly a bittersweet night. We were obviously hoping for a much better result," he said. "It's going to be a tough next few weeks."

No other candidate in the Foothills riding topped even 6 per cent, with Cheryl Moller for the Liberals coming in 2nd with 5.9 per cent, Mickail Hendi of the NDP earning 5.7 per cent, the Green Party's Bridget Lacey at 3.6 per cent, and Greg Hession and the PPC with 3.6 per cent.

When asked about his chances of joining the shadow cabinet, Barlow said the decision wasn't up to him.

"That's up to the leadership team, and we don't even know who that's going to be right now," he said.

Barlow called the rise of the Bloc Quebecois and a disappointing result on the east coast as signs that the evening wasn't going the Conservatives' way.

"Going into this campaign, the thing I was most concerned about is this country; I've never seen us this divided," he said. "And I think that has been exemplified if anything with the results here tonight."

Barlow was first elected to Parliament in 2014.
