Notice a jump at the pumps this morning? It won't be going away anytime soon.

Today, Jan. 1, Alberta's NDP Government brought in the second phase of its carbon tax, which amounts to a permanent increase of approximately two cents a litre, and three cents a litre for diesel.

The Provincial carbon tax increased by about 50 per cent today, with the carbon levy growing from $20 to $30 a tonne.

This also means higher home bills for Albertans, which will rise by approximately $150 for the average household.

Alberta now has one of the highest carbon taxes in Canada.
