The Town of Okotoks Culture and Heritage and Parks Services have teamed up with Foothills Composite High School and Alberta High School of Fine Arts on a community initiative.

Allan Boss, Cultural and Heritage Manager for the town, says some outdoor washrooms have been vandalized with graffiti and are in need of a makeover.

"We've had a number of washrooms that have been hit with graffiti, so we'd like to try and make washrooms less attractive for graffiti," he said.

A total of 35 mural designs were submitted by students and have been posted online for casting votes. The top five designs selected will be painted on the outdoor washrooms at Cimarron Park, Kinsmen Park, two in Sheep River Park and Howard Park.

Boss says there are student-created designs currently up online waiting for votes.

"You can vote on your favourite five murals that you think we should paint on the washrooms," said Boss.

The winning designs will be announced and students will begin painting in September, with completion scheduled for the end of the 2019 school year.
