Spring weather in Southern Alberta has been unpredictable as usual this year, but it's still a good idea to start looking into changing over to all-season or summer tires.

Even though snow in May is somewhat common, Rim 2 Rim Tire Centre Owner, Pat Kerrison says when temperatures are above 7 or 8 degrees Celsius on a continual basis it's time to make the switch.

"It can wear them a little quicker when it is significantly warmer like above 20 degrees when people have their winter tires on it can wear them very quickly because the rubber compounds they are made of."

He adds since the compounds are much softer on a full winter tire, it may affect the way your car drives if using winters in warm weather.

Kerrison shares another important thing to note this time of year is tire pressure.

"A lot of vehicles out there I would say are under inflated, and that can cause irregular wear, which also causes more drag, and burns more fuel."

Not only will tires wear prematurely but they could also overheat which can lead to tread separation and a potential accident.

Busy season for tire changes generally begins in mid-March and runs through until June, so it's a good idea to book in as soon as possible.
