A blanket of snow has covered the Foothills and that means sledding season has arrived.

The Town of Okotoks has provided residents with a number of sledding options this winter that will entertain families and people of all ages.

Parks manager Christa Michailuck says hills can be found at the town website.

"So on the town website we have a list of tobogganing hills that we recommend for families to check out and some of them are more catered to younger children but there are some larger ones as well."

Though there are a lot of areas in Okotoks people could try conquering on a sled Michailuck says these hills on the list are picked for a reason.

"We've picked locations around town that are considered safe for tobogganing as best as they can be. And those sites have been pre-inspected and wont damage private property such as running into private fences or crossing pathways. And we have checked hills prior to snowfall to make sure there is no debris or things that could cause injury on those hills."

Michailuck adds there aren't any rules when sledding on these designated hills but riders should remember a few things.

"Be safe, wearing helmets is always a good idea, it's not required but it is always recommended. Also keep good space between tobogganers so you're not colliding with others and have fun."
