Calling all War, history, or aero-buffs to the Bomber Command Museum in Nanton.

The Bomber Command Museum honors those who served with the Bomber Command, and features a FM-159 Lancaster Aircraft, as their main attraction.

It's the Lancaster aircraft that guests and museum staff will be honoring today.

Dan Fox, the Museum's Vice President says, the Museum has planned a commemorative engine run to memorialize the first operation the Lancaster aircraft ever ran in Europe.

"We're celebrating, or commemorating the Lancaster's first Op - commemorating the 75th anniversary, when it first flew in operations over Germany." Fox says it was called the Dambusters Raid.
"That's when they dropped the 'bouncing bombs' on the dams in Germany, in 1943. The Air Force breached two huge dams and caused a lot of damage in Germany."

Four family members who are directly related to the soldiers that flew in the Dambusters Raid in 1943 will be in attendance for the day.

They will have a long lost photo album, containing information and photo's of the operations, that will be returned to it's rightful owner after it was stolen in the 1990's.

Fox says they will have two engine runs, the first will take place at 11:00 AM to commemorate, the Dambusters Raid mission, the second at 2:00 PM to thank community volunteers.

At both times, Fox says the Lancaster will run, and then the Bristol Hercules engine will share the spotlight.

"After we run all four engines of the Lancaster, we'll run the Bristol Hercules engine which is mounted on a trailer." Fox adds "That's the engine that powered the Halifax bombers, and it's the same size of the Lancaster's."

Fox promises it will be a loud and exciting run, as the Bristol Hercules Engine can be compared to "47 Harleys on steroids."
