Shawn Wiebe is a special guy.

The Nanton firefighter, known around the world thanks to his iconic photo during the High River flood, is always looking to give back.

He strapped on his gear and made the 54 story climb of Calgary's Bow Building, all for charity, on May 1.

Wiebe says he didn't have the fastest time, but he still did pretty well.

"26 minutes and 37 seconds. Some took an hour or whatnot, but I paced myself I stopped and took a break. Being the first time, I set my bar. So, now next year I want to be 20 minutes or less."

He says next year, he'll challenge his twin brother Ryan, who's a High River firefighter, to join him in the "Firefighter Stair Climb Challenge."

Wiebe raised $1,230 for Wellsprings Calgary, which helps cancer patients and their families deal with the disease.

He says when his brother-in-law was dying from cancer he and his family could have used the services of Wellsprings, and now that he knows about it, he wants to make sure others going through the same thing have support.
