Andreas Dauter has received more recognition for his efforts in the community with a Canada 150 award.

The Grade 12 student from Holy Trinity Academy is not only an active member in his school but is also involved in the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre and was awarded with the Senior High Winners of Tomorrow award at the Okotoks Leadership Awards in April.

Dauter, who struggles with health issues, says as he heads to post secondary in the medical field his goal is to help others who may be experiencing similar matters.

"Going forward to university my main focus is going to be making things easier for kids and families who are in positions similar to what I have gone through."

He adds he's thrilled to do his part for a country that's presented him with so much opportunity.

"My relationship with Canada has always been one that's very strong. It's given me so much and the fact that I can give back and keep that relationship going is awesome to me."

The awards were handed out in High River on Wednesday by Foothills MP John Barlow to those who go above and beyond in their community.
