The Holy Trinity Academy Band will be giving back to the less fortunate on their triennial mission trip to Cuba.

The one week trip will take place over the Easter break,  Vice President HTMA Parents association Gail Lafond says it will be a great learning experience for students.

"What they do is collaborate with the bands there, we actually play some music with them, do some salsa dancing and have a little fun with them."

Every year, the band tries to take items to donate to those who have little in Cuba, including instruments, toys, toiletries and sports equipment.

"In the past our band director Martin has taken quite a few instruments that have been donated by HTA or others around, because the instruments others have are pretty worn out, and they don't have the access to all the stuff we do here."

Lafond shares the one week trip to experience Cuban culture is very eye opening for students.

"We hope that they have an awareness of the fact that we have this abundance, and just to be able to share a few of the gifts, whether it be music talents and those things we have that they don't. Gaining friendships as well from the the experience to carry on, and I know social media is really good in that aspect."

She adds the band will be accepting donations until the trip on April 14, but would like to have most items together to sort on Monday, April 3.

You can drop off donations at the Holy Trinity Academy.

Some ideas for donations include: bars of soap, small shampoo/conditioner, small toothpastes, toothbrushes, small notebooks, crayons, pens, pencils, nylon shopping bags, sunglasses, hair accessories, socks (sports/knee high, hard candy (nothing that will melt), multi-tools, and sporting goods.
