Thanks to Telus, the Foothills Country Hospice is able to purchase new technology for patient use.

The hospice applied for the grant from the Telus Payday Lottery Committee and was alerted earlier this week they were a recipient.

Dawn Elliott, executive director dawn of the hospice, says they'll be purchasing new audio and video equipment with the funds.

"We'd like to get a couple of iPads for our patients and that will enable them to Face Time or Skype loved ones who might not be able to come and visit them," she says. "We're also purchasing a microphone we'll be using with our patients who are in the process of developing a lasting legacy video, this way it'll be easier for us to hear them."

A lasting legacy video is an opportunity for patients to tell their stories and leave a message for their families.

Elliott says the videos play a significant role.

"Often when people come here it's a time for reflection and there might be something they want to say to their loved ones and they can leave them a legacy, something that they can remember them by."

Elliott adds the hospice is grateful for the support from Telus.
