The Notley Government has decided to put off moving forward on the Royalty Review until the new year.

Livingstone Macleod MLA Pat Stier says the review has a lot of people worried.

"They (the government) will be coming out with something, we're hoping it's just a review, we're hoping that they will see that there's nothing that can be done there," Stier says. "We're hoping that they're going to leave it status quo and we're hoping that they're going to put some kind of timeframe into it so that then there's some predictability into it and some sustainability into it."

He says people in the oil and gas business need to be able to look ahead and see what it is they're going to have to deal with so they can plan accordingly.

Highwood MLA Wayne Anderson says the review just isn't necessary.

"You immediately increased the taxes to corporations by 20 per cent, first hit, in a down economy you kick them when they're down, then you bring in a carbon tax, a $3.6 billion, and that was never campaigned on," he says. "Ironically that money, now they're saying is going to go back into Alberta, but where?"

A panel set up by the premier was supposed to issue a report and the government was to respond by the end of this month.

But Premier Rachel Notley says the government wants to get its response right.
