RCMP have revised the charges a High River woman faces in connection with exploiting teens.

RCMP Wednesday charged 23-year-old Samantha Pedersen with five counts of trafficking in persons under 18 years, five counts of procuring a person under 18 years, four counts of sexual exploitation of a young person and one count of assault.

She does not face charges of living off the avails of prostitution.

The charges stem from an investigation initiated by an RCMP school resource officer who became aware that some local teens were being recruited via social media and then exploited by adults for criminal purposes.

The investigation revealed that five teenage girls between the ages of 13 and 16 had been victimized.

The victims are now being assisted by Child and Family Services and Foothills Victim Services.

Because the matter is before the courts, RCMP say they will not be providing any other details.

Pedersen is currently in custody and will be in provincial court in Okotoks on October 28.
