High River RCMP were called to the corner of 546 Avenue West and Coal Trail on Wednesday April 27 around 2:30am for what a resident described as up to twenty gunshots.

Sergeant Brent Hawker says they responded and they confirmed it was exactly what the resident heard.

"Police made a patrol to the area and found two traffic signs that had been damaged from shotgun blasts as well as a number of shell casings were found laying on the roadway."

He says police received a similar complaint of five gunshots the evening prior and a third complaint was responded to on April 19th.

Hawker says the report identified a silver or grey car with up to four occupants, however no make or model could be provided.

"We ask residents of the area that if you hear gunshots even in the middle of the night that you call in and let us know and we'll make a patrol and see if we can find something."

He says the recent rash of damage and gunshots in the area have everyone on edge.

"If someone is out in the rural area moving around in the middle of the night with a loaded firearm it's reason for us all to be concerned. It's certainly not safe firearms practices."

He says police are seeking the assistance of the public in identifying a suspect or suspects and to contact the High River RCMP at 403-652-2356 if you have any information about this crime.
