Rain or shine, the Redwood Meadows Firefighters Association will be holding their 9th Annual Heroes in the Sky Fundraiser this weekend.

Firefighters will be camped out on the roof of Bragg Creek Foods on Saturday night with events planned on the ground all day Saturday and Sunday.

Gary Robertson, president of the Redwood Meadows Firefighters Association, says the event acts as a celebration.

"It's really grown from just a fundraiser to a community party, " he says. "On the ground we have a barbeque, face painting for the kids, some merchandise we're selling that helps us raise funds. There's lots of great stuff going on and it's a great opportunity for the community to come out and get together after a busy summer and kind of regroup and see those familiar faces of your neighbours and friends in the community."

Robertson says while they're on the roof crew members spend their time playing cards, waving and chatting with residents on the ground, and dance and listen to music.

There's activities planned for the whole weekend.

"It starts at 11 o'clock on Saturday and we're going all the way until midnight, we have live music and events all throughout the day," Robertson says. "Sunday morning we start again at nine with yoga and we're going all the way until six o'clock. Also on Sunday from 1- 4:00 p.m. we have the Prostate Cancer Centre coming out with their man van so we're doing PSA blood tests for guys."

The Redwood Meadows Firefighter Association is sending a team to the Fire Fit games in Drumheller this weekend as well.

Updates from the roof top team can be found on the association's Facebook page and on Twitter by following @FFAssociation.
