Firefighters in Bragg Creek will be spending 30 hours of their weekend camped out on a roof top.

The 7th annual Heroes in the Sky event is back with members of the Redwood Meadows Firefighters' Association ascending the Family Foods grocery store's roof from noon on Saturday until 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Gary Robertson, the association's vice president, says the money raises funds for an important cause.

"Heroes in the Sky is a fundraiser for our health and wellness programs that we offer for our volunteer firefighters," he says.

"Our goal this year is $10,000 and that'll be what we use next year for all of our health and wellness programs that we're able to offer."

Robertson says there is a lot planned at the event to keep people of all ages entertained.

"We will have some performers out there, we'll have face painting, fire truck tours and we're doing some fire extinguisher training for the community as well," he says.

"We have t-shirts and hats for sale, the barbecue is going on all day and Saturday evening, if parents can take their kids home and come back, we're having a barbecue through the evening and live music until midnight."

On Sunday, the Man Van from the Prostate Cancer Centre will be at the event from 1 to 4 p.m. providing free PSA blood tests to about 90 men over the age of 40.
