Residents in the Town of Okotoks have and will start to see new waste bins arriving at their homes this week.

The new recycling program  is set to commence on October 1, and there will three different options of waster disposal to choose from in traditional black garbage bins, blue recycling and green organic bins.

Waste Services Manager Paul Lyons says some parts of the community already have received their new blue bins.

"Our contractor started on Wednesday of last week and focused exculsive on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday on blue carts," he says. "This is a result of the fact that we already had a subscription program in place."

Lyons expects all carts to be delivered by the end of the week.

"For green carts which he started on Friday and did some work on Saturday as well and that will continue and should end by Friday of this week. What he's currently doing is going to home based on their collection days."

For those that aren't sure how the new program works will receive information when the green bins arrive.

"Inside the kitchen pail there will be an information brochure on how to use the entire program so blue, garbage and organics along with information about the EcoCentre."

The recycling program is no additional charge to the green bins if homes are already subscribed to the blue bins, those that aren't subscribed will get a free trial basis on the bins with an opt out option on the blue recycling cart in January 2017.
