Times are tough when it comes to the economy and can mean cutbacks on not just jobs in particular but what families can or can't do.

The Town of Okotoks does offer a way to help those pay for recreational fees when money might be tight.

Community Wellness Manager for the Town Debbie Posey says the Recreation Fee Assistance Program can help.

"It does help any low income families take advantage of any of the programs that offered through the Okotoks Rec Centre," she says.

The program is through complete donations by the community and it's a options that's been available to Okotokians for quite sometime.

Posey says all families need to do is go to the Okotoks Family Resource Centre and apply for the program.

"The coordinators will screen them for income and then they load a credit onto the registration system through the recreation centre and then when families go to register for our programs they can ask to have their fee assistance applied to whatever they're registering for."

The program is available to to all ages looking for financial aid and looking to live a healthy lifestyle Posey says.

"It covers up to $150 per person which helps make programs more affordable and can be applied to subsidize up 80% of the cost of a program. They can use their fee assistance to offset the cost of that program."

Posey encourages all of those heading out for the Family Day weekend when Town facilities are free to the public to donate to the program to help the program help continue to serve those who need it the most.
